Biography
Megan Coates has a versatile voice and style which have earned her success on both the Musical and Operatic stage. Her talents have been showcased on New York Public Access Television’s "Manhattan Classical Opera Hour"; Arizona’s University-House Channel broadcasts of her portrayals of Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) and Fiordiligi (Cosí fan tutte); and her appearance on NBC’s "The Today Show" regarding her involvement in the "Simon Peter Passion Play Musical." Her recent performances include Mimi and Musetta (La Bohème), Monica (The Medium), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Königin der Nacht (Die Zauberflöte), Cousin Hebe (HMS Pinafore), and Mrs. Harcourt (Anything Goes). Her international experiences include the 2004 AIMS Opera in Graz, Austria; the 2008 Flagstaff in Fidenza Opera in Fidenza, Italy; and the 2008 Opera Nederland Workshop in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Megan has also performed as a featured soprano soloist in orchestral concert works, oratorio performances, and chamber pieces such as Beethoven’s "Choral Fantasie," Handel’s "Messiah," Haydn’s "Theresienmesse," and Ellwood Derr’s "I Never Saw Another Butterfly." In 2005, Megan garnered first place in the Edgar Stone Vocal Competition and in 2008, she was a CO/WY MONC district finalist. She is also the recipient of the 2008 Allied Arts and the 2007 Arizona Opera Guild artist grants. Megan currently resides in New York City where she studies voice with Ashley Putnam.
