Biography
Megan Coates has a versatile voice and style which have earned her success on both the Musical and Operatic stage. Her talents have been showcased on television in New York’s Manhattan Classical Opera Hour; Northern Arizona’s local broadcasts of her portrayals of Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Fiordiligi (Cosí fan tutte), and Monica (The Medium); and her appearance on NBC’s The Today Show regarding her role as Mary Magdalene in the Simon Peter Passion Play Musical. Her recent stage performances include Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Mimi and Musetta (La Bohème), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Cousin Hebe (HMS Pinafore), and Mrs. Harcourt (Anything Goes). In the Washington DC metro area, she has been a frequent artist with Bel Cantanti Opera, and in New York City she routinely performed with Brooklyn Opera Company, New York Lyric Opera, Liederkranz Opera, Morningside Opera, and Amadeus Opera. Her international experiences include the 2004 AIMS Opera in Graz, Austria; the 2008 Flagstaff in Fidenza Opera in Fidenza, Italy; and the 2008 Opera Nederland Workshop in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Megan has also performed as a featured soprano soloist throughout the Southwestern United States in orchestral concert works, oratorio performances, and chamber pieces such as Beethoven’s Choral Fantasie, Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Theresienmesse, and Ellwood Derr’s I Never Saw Another Butterfly. Megan currently resides in Washington D.C and studies voice with Louise Urban.
